Community Service

The Beacon Academy believes in the importance of our students reaching out
and helping others throughout their years at the Academy.

Grades 7-10 Service as Action (SA)

Service as Action (SA) is a core component of the International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme (MYP). It emphasizes the importance of community service and encourages students to engage in meaningful action that benefits others. Service as Action helps students understand their roles in society and encourages them to take initiative in making a positive impact.

Grades 11-12 Creativity, Activity, and Service (CAS)

CAS is central to the IB Diploma Programme. It is one of the three essential components of each student’s experience and involves participation in various activities alongside academic studies. CAS enables students to enhance their personal and interpersonal development through experiential learning, while also providing a crucial counterbalance to the academic pressures of the Diploma Programme.

Club: COSA (Community Outreach Student Association)

COSA is an after school organization that offers students opportunities to develop their sense of caring for others and for the environment as students initiate individual and collective action that make a positive social impact.

The Early Readers Project

The Early Readers Project is Beacon Academy’s response to the call for improving literacy and numeracy in the public elementary school system. Through BA’s student-initiated community outreach team, COSA, volunteers spend time with select pupils at public elementary schools around the area, focusing on reading comprehension and writing skills.

Student, faculty, and staff volunteers from the Beacon Academy community must first take part in training workshop conducted by top reading specialists before doing diagnostics and reading tutorials with the students. The project also includes creating little books for emergent readers in downloadable and printable format for use in schools and homes all over the country. Many of the early readers booklets used have been written, illustrated, and produced by high school students at the Beacon Academy.

Helping Hands

Helping Hands is an internal project that aims to express our gratitude to our outsourced personnel and staff, affectionately called the ‘Ates’ and ‘Kuyas’ in the Beacon Academy community. In this project, students organize games, meals, and fund-raisers to celebrate the birthdays of those who help make Beacon Academy what it is.

Biñan Day Care Center

Biñan Day Care Center is a preschool center in Barangay Biñan and has been a partner institution of Beacon Academy for many years. BA students organize events that cater to the needs of pupils aged 2 to 5 years. Some of these activities include a Valentine’s Day celebration, a Christmas event at BA, reading and writing sessions, and various arts and crafts activities.

Workshops for Pupils

Workshops for Pupils is an external project dedicated to empowering student leaders from partner public schools through three distinct workshops:

  1. Leadership Workshop: This workshop focuses on developing essential leadership skills, including problem-solving and relationship-building, through interactive sessions that encourage active participation and collaboration among students.
  2. Skills Building Workshop: Aimed at enhancing academic and executive skills, this workshop teaches learners vital skills such as time management, communication, and teamwork, preparing them for success in their studies and beyond.
  3. Sports Program: This program consists of a series of sports-related exercises and training sessions designed to improve performance in specific sports. It also provides opportunities for pupils to engage in athletic activities, fostering teamwork and physical fitness.
